A Call to all prisoners to help create a culture that serves the people! Comrades are working with students to organize a prisoner art project for Spring 2000. The goal is to display revolutionary art from prisoners that exposes the injustices in prison and society. Far from just reflecting on injustice and imperialism, we also want to build public opinion for national liberation and self- determination. Today most art, music and literature is controlled by the imperialists. The images are of emaciated wimmin, racist stereotypes, and bourgeois history or of descriptions of leisurely lives that the international proletariat knows nothing about. Revolutionary art portrays a society that actually serves the people and not a few elitists. Art for the masses uses realistic art forms to portray the day to day struggle of the oppressed, and create images that inspire struggle for a better society. We are calling on prisoners to contribute to building a revolutionary culture. We need drawings, paintings, poetry, short prose, or whatever else creative minds can come up with to educate and organize the masses against imperialism. Students have stepped up and volunteered their time to get the art ready for presentation, reserving space and publicizing. Art can say something to some people that words can not. Through viewing art, and then giving people the revolutionary tools and leadership, MIM and RAIL can politicize people in favor of national liberation and self-determination against U$ imperialism. So prisoners collect all of your creative thoughts and put them down in revolutionary spirit to oppose injustice and imperialism. Send your art, poetry or general contributions c/o MIM and label it "Revolutionary Art Show". Just remember to keep it within the context of revolutionary struggle. (This could include some letters too!) It is time we made art a tool to fight imperialism, and not perpetuate it as a fluff-subject or outright service to imperialism. Build Revolutionary Culture and Fight imperialism!
