Pornography sets the standard in media business In the wake of the popularity of light pornography shows about Hollywood "news," the huge TV ratings for Monica Lewinsky coverage and now the national obsession with Condit and Chandra Levy, a new Canada-based newscasting company has revealed yet again the nature of media in a for-profit economy. Nakednews.com has surpassed 6 million separate viewers per month for its television style news with naked news announcers. The most popular website CNN gets fewer than 10 million viewers per month. Meanwhile, nakednews.com is such a success that it is now moving to pay-per-view cable television. Viewers may choose between naked wimmin announcers and naked men announcers. Mainstream news agencies may deny that they are pornographic in how they choose their anchors and subjects, but they cannot avoid competing with NakedNews.com and others like them which are obviously pornographic. For this reason, stories about Hollywood sex lives, Monica Lewinsky and now Chandra Levy dominate the airwaves. MIM has no puritanical reasons to oppose nudity. However, we do oppose the profit-run economy. Before the end of the profit-run system, MIM tips its hat to those who run pornography websites and choose to promote MIM material. MIM's media is independent and profits no one. Pornography ranging from typical ads to really sick material attracts participants on the web and drives up use of all aspects of the web. Like it or not, anyone who has a web site and gets any visitors benefits from pornography, which is connected to major search engines, major homepages and advertisers like Amazon, which advertise heavily on NakedNews. Those who believe they are isolated from such web traffic are caught in a dream-world of petty-bourgeois individualism.
