Indiana RAIL homepage
This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

RAIL group in Bloomington Indiana (RAIL Indiana)

Our mission, goals and recent work

The primary purpose of RAIL Indiana is to expose the systematic brutality of U$ imperialism and imperialism in general and national chauvinism. At the same time, we promote Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. Thus, RAIL Indiana is an anti-imperialist, anti-militarist organization seeking to ally ourselves with activist groups participating in anti-militarist demonstrations and educational campaigns. RAIL Indiana upholds the three Cardinal Principles of Maoist Internationalist Movement (MIM) and accepts the leadership of MIM. We do not accept the leadership of any other group. To reiterate, the cardinal principles as outlined by MIM are listed below:

  1. MIM holds that after the proletariat seizes power in socialist revolution, the potential exists for capitalist restoration under the leadership of a new bourgeoisie within the communist party itself. In the case of the USSR, the bourgeoisie seized power after the death of Stalin in 1953; in China, it was after Mao's death and the overthrow of the "Gang of Four" in 1976.
  2. MIM upholds the Chinese Cultural Revolution as the farthest advance of communism in human history.
  3. As Marx, Engels and Lenin formulated and MIM has reiterated through materialist analysis, imperialism extracts super-profits from the Third World and in part uses this wealth to buy off whole populations of oppressor nation so-called workers. These so-called workers bought off by imperialism form a new petty-bourgeoisie called the labor aristocracy. These classes are not the principal vehicles to advance Maoism within those countries because their standards of living depend on imperialism. At this time, imperialist super-profits create this situation in Canada, Quebec, the United $tates, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Japan,Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Israel, Sweden and Denmark. (See MIM Theory #1 on the White-Working Class and MIM Theory #10)

RAIL Indiana seeks to educate student and community activists about the importance of these cardinal principles and about Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and scientific communism as the appropriate alternative to the present corporate/imperialist kleptocracy. Imperialism "The Highest Stage of Capitalism", as Lenin stated, forcibly maintains oppressive class relations in the world today (i.e., especially where citizens of oppressor nations extract surplus value and live off the exploitation of third world oppressed nations). Right now, our primary outlet for education is the "Its Right To Rebel" forums which we advertise on our fliers. Members of RAIL Indiana are also encouraged to participate in the People's University forums and read Marx's Capital volume I, as works by Lenin and Mao. Studying these works is paramount for understanding the material basis for imperialism, war, and socialist revolution.

The main focus of RAIL Indiana is anti-militarism and anti-war. That is, we are actively involved in anti-war, anti-occupation protests, and we also work to oppose military recruiting. However, we also take up numerous other campaigns as indicated below.

  1. Indiana Bloomington needs MIM notes. Plain and simple!
We STRONGLY encourage participants to pay for and distribute MIM notes on campus and around the surrounding community. Very few people understand the Marxist-Leninist-Maoist perspective or know anything about scientific communism.
  2. RAIL also posts fliers downloaded from RAIL's web-page.
The majority of fliers distributed and posted include RAIL's recent flier opposing aggression against Iran. Another favorite flier we post is the one saying "Fighting Imperialism is not terrorism!" This has important educational content since it is often claimed in the U$ media that those fighting U$ aggression overseas are "terrorists". We say that those who are engaged in armed struggle for survival in the face of imperialist aggression not terrorists, especially since they are not the aggressors. Brutalizing human beings for profit is, on the other hand, terrorism and this is what the U$ war machine has been doing for generations. We also posted fliers supporting the freedom fighters of Iraq, and opposing the occupation. Fliers opposing the U$-Mexico boarder, and supporting immigrants have been posted as well.
  3. Academic freedom and Ward Churchill.
Rail members have sought to educate community activists and students about the new McCarthyism directed against the tenured Colorado professor Ward Churchill. We have discussed Churchill's academic contribution to Native American and ethnic studies detailing white settler oppression and genocide committed against first nation people. We have also pointed out (sometimes to people with very thick heads) problems with the charges leveled against Churchill and how the evidence points to him being investigated for his 9/11 speech, rather than "ghost writing" or "improperly" citing a pamphlet. We support the belief, using the evidence on MIM's web page, that the accusations leveled against Professor Churchill are politically motivated and tantamount to libel. RAIL members have worked over the past week to obtain signatures on behalf of Professor Churchill demanding that the committee led by Di Stefano be investigated by the Attorney General's office. We got 15 signatures, mostly from students in a relatively brief period of time. Most students, approached , of all ethnic backgrounds readily signed the position. One student said he saw Ward Churchill on television and claimed that the accusations against him were "a bunch of bullshit". Other students said they didn't know much about him, but said that they didn't want to sit back and see somebody fired for free speech. In all, we didn't't face much opposition except from one person who believed that the accusations were true. RAIL would like to collect more signatures on behalf of Professor Churchill seeing as time might be short! Fifteen signatures may not be a lot, but every name counts at this point.
  4. Anti-Militarism and Iraq war.
RAIL has been involved in taking part in anti-war demonstrations opposing this immoral war in conjunction with local peace activist groups. The demonstrations are small and few college age people seem to want to get involved. Sadly, they must feel like something is more important than the U$ corporate led state invading a sovereign nation and killing tens of thousands of innocent people. We hope to generate more interest by passing out fliers detailing U$ atrocities, and posting RAIL fliers. In general, the people passing by the demonstrations seem apathetic. Some may glance over at the demonstration, and we do get the occasional thumbs up, peace sign, or honk of the horn in support of the anti-war message. We also have the occasional right-wing heckler. Some of these people just yell obscenities and give us the middle finger. One idiot yelled out of his SUV "Well what else are we supposed to do?" I answered him that U$ imperialism, controlled by finance capital was responsible for this war and that it was necessary to oppose imperialist countries. He looked at me dumbfounded and then drove off. In all, I have to say that people's level of education on issues like U$ wars of aggression and atrocities, and the alternatives to these oppressive institutions is abysmal. RAIL also has a small contingent that protests in front of the National Guard office. The national guard office prominently displays advertisements complete with young models in Guard clothes, along with offers including sign on bonuses and tuition reimbursement. It is only appropriate that we educate people about Iraqi civilians on the receiving end of the U$ war machine. Instead of getting college paid for, they get their water and electricity cut off, and their cities bombed destroyed. Nope, no 20,000 sign on bonus for them. At best, Iraqi's suffer from fear and poverty (except a few lackeys acting as top government officials). And all to often they aren't so lucky. Many have been maimed or killed and many are suffering from the effects of depleted uranium and phosphorus bombs, which are supposed to be banned. We passed leaflets in front of the National Guard office detailing the number of Iraqi deaths, torture, and other atrocities. Many people passing by passively took the leaflets and some appeared interested in reading them. One college aged student claimed he was in Iraq and he threw the leaflet in the trash as he turned away. Other than that incident, people did not actively oppose what we were doing, although some people passing did not want any part of the leaflet and ignored us as they walked by. RAIL participants plan to keep up our anti-militarist and anti-Iraq war work by continuing to protest in front of the National guard office while attending other anti-war demonstrations and events.

We will keep you updated about activities on a regular basis and we look forward to suggestions and comments from comrades.
