Mao Zedong "The policies of aggression and war of U.S. imperialism also seriously threaten the Soviet Union, China, and the other socialist countries. Moreover, it is vigorously seeking to push its policy of 'peaceful evolution' in the socialist countries, in order to bring about the restoration of capitalism there and disintegrate the socialist camp." --Mao, "U.S. Imperialism Is the Most Ferocious Enemy of the World's People," 1964 "Khruschov's revisionism entirely caters to the policy of 'peaceful evolution' which U.S. imperialism is pursuing with regard to the Soviet Union and other socialist countries. John Foster Dulles said: '. . .there was evidence within the Soviet Union forces toward greater liberalism which, if they persisted, could bring about a basic change within the Soviet Union.' "The liberal forces Dulles talked about are capitalist forces. The basic change Dulles hoped for is the degeneration of socialism into capitalism." --Mao, "On Khrushchov's Phoney Communism and Its Historical Lessons for the World: Comment on the Open Letter of the Central Committee of the CPSU (IX)," Foreign Languages Press, Peking, July 14, 1964 [Why this quote is correct: Stalin had sometimes said that socialism was "forever" in the Soviet Union. Trotsky had said it was impossible to restore capitalism without a major bloody civil war. Already in 1958, Mao was warning inside the Communist Party of China that the U.S. Secretary of State had announced a "peaceful evolution" strategy. Mao's enemy in the Communist Party of China, Bo Yibo, one who had a major hand in negating the Cultural Revolution, has written memoirs saying that Mao was linking Khruschev to Dulles already in 1958, 1959 and 1960.
