MIM Notes 189 July 1 1999 MOTHER JONES FACES UP ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: WHEN WILL AMERIKA? by MC5 The liberal publication called "Mother Jones" has finally begun facing up to something MIM has been saying for the better part of the 1990s: wimmin in Amerika are also violent in their romantic relations. In fact, yet another study has come out showing that they are more violent than men. "Hitting the Wall: After 20 years of domestic violence research, scientists can't avoid hard facts" is long overdue, particularly in the liberal, pseudo-feminist milieu. There are two reasons MIM was never surprised by the facts about domestic violence surveys which show that wimmin when interviewed by survey researchers admit to doing more violence than their partners. First, the United $tates and other imperialist countries are built on genocide. Wimmin were not exempt from benefits or participation in the genocide against indigenous peoples. That culture and history has not been dealt with even by the so-called minorities integrated into the system. Secondly, part of the unity of the imperialist culture is that the wimmin are given gender privileges over other men. In fact, imperialist culture wimmin receive many privileges in the realm of romance culture and they are trained to value that romance culture more highly than men. So the idea that wimmin in this decadent culture--and that includes the Black, First Nation, Latino and Asian-descended wimmin integrated into the system--should find romance so important is part of the reason they are willing to fight over it. In fact, as MIM has already shown in MT2/3 and as again admitted in recent studies, wimmin are more often violent than men if not with the same level of force given size and physical strength. Men get themselves in violence of many sorts, but the most common act of violence by wimmin and injury to wimmin by other people relates to their romantic partners. The intertwining of violence and sex into romance could not be otherwise in a system glorifying genocide and war. Thoroughly untying this oppressive knot can only occur in a world where people do not desire power over other people--communism. Note: Mother Jones May/June99, p. 37.
