MIM NOTES No. 190 July 15, 1999 MLM Online: MIM's web site makes great advances http://www.prisoncensorship.info/archive/etext In the first six months of 1999, MIM, MIM supporters, and RAIL have been steadily expanding and improving the content and design of our web site. We've also been formalizing roles, principles and responsibilities for its upkeep and using the web site as an organizing tool for both the party and the United Front. While the Internet is not the only place that MIM organizes, or even where we put most of our resources, we do see it as an important tool to reach people across the globe. Major advances in 1999 include updates so that the web site now has a near complete six year electronic archive of MIM Notes, several years of Under Lock & Key correspondence from prisoners, special topical news collections on such areas as Iraq and Kosovo, and a Russian language page. Before and during MIM's recently concluded 1999 Party Congress, we used the web site to solicit statements and greetings from supporters, allies and fraternal organizations, particularly on building the proletarian-led united front. We then published those statements, as well as other Congress materials, prominently on the site for the world to see. Under Lock & Key is RAIL's new weekly radio program on prisons. It currently airs on several stations in the U.$. regularly, and RAIL makes print transcripts and some Real Audio clips are available on its web site under "Campaigns and Projects." The bookstore contains Maoist book, movie and music reviews and allows readers to purchase these and other items directly from amazon.com, automatically donating a portion of the sale price to MIM. The MIM bookstore also solicits your reviews of materials we might have missed or not heard of, that both promote revolutionary thinking about culture and concretely fund-raise for the struggle against imperialism. Setting up the bookstore, and the call for reviews, has already brought several allies out of the woodwork to do the extra work of contributing reviews to help raise money. One person is building a hardcore/punk section of the web site, starting with the militant hardcore band Earth Crisis. We are counting on allies everywhere to help us build this important resource by contributing to other sections of the bookstore. Even if you already know what you want to buy, if you plan to purchase books online, we ask our allies to visit MIM's bookstore and click through to Amazon to buy your books so that we can get a portion of the profits from your purchase. You can also help contribute to the expansion of MIM's web site by aiding in translation, from English to Spanish, French, or any other language you can write in. Write to mim@mim.org with your efforts or for more information on how to get involved.
