MIM condemns Hacienda Looc murders The Maoist Internationalist Movement (MIM) condemns the murders of Terry Sevilla and Roger Alla, who opposed the Harbortown luxury golf development. The Harbortown development would evict hundreds of peasants from their land in Hacienda Looc, the Philippines. Unidentified men believed to be private security guards ambushed Sevilla and Alla on their way home from work in the evening of March 4. A third man escaped alive and reported the incident to local farmers. This is not the first time opponents of the Harbortown development have faced violent repression. On February 13, 1997 security guards killed Francisco Marasigan and Maximo Carpinter. Armed guards and the Philippine National Police have occupied Hacienda Looc for several years. The leader of the peasant organization Umalpaska also reports that developers' guards have recently burned down peasants' huts. Umalpaska has fought against the development, using non-violent tactics such as demonstrations and humyn barricades. After corrupt local authorities excused the murderers of Marasigan and Carpinter, the revolutionary New People's Army (NPA) threatened retaliation against the developers should the killings continue. As seen in the documentary film "The Golf War," this declaration stopped the murders for a while. MIM recognizes the right and necessity of the NPA to use revolutionary armed force to counter reactionary armed force, which oppresses the people. MIM pledges to continue its support of the farmers of Hacienda Looc by publicizing their struggle. MIM also pledges to continue its support the revolutionary movement led by the Communist Party of the Philippines, which strives to liberate the people of the Philippines from imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism. MIM pledges to develop the revolutionary movement inside u.$. borders, as this is the most substantial aid we can give our brothers and sisters abroad. Where Amerikan imperialism is not directly oppressing the peoples of the world, it is supporting the corrupt rule of local capitalist and feudal elites for its own crass interests.
