Prison "refuses" anti-censorship protest MIM has been leading a campaign against censorship in the Connecticut prison Northern Correctional Institution for over a year now. This prison censors newspapers, books and even letters sent both to and from prisoners. Often the censors do not inform the prisoner that his mail has been taken and this has led to some prisoners questioning why MIM stopped writing to them. In response MIM has been working with prisoners (when our mail gets in) to fight the legal battle against censorship while at the same time organizing people on the outside to send in postcards protesting the censorship. A batch of postcards sent in a few months ago were returned to MIM in an envelope with "Refused" written across each one with a big black marker. MIM is glad to see that the prison staff is reading these postcards carefully and taking the time to respond to each one. People who want to join the fight against censorship at Northern Correctional Institution can send letters of protest to the warden or the mail room at: Northern Correctional Institution PO Box 665 Somers, CT 06071 Please also send a copy of your letter to MIM.
