"James Bond 007: Moonraker"
Uncut
1979

Had it preceded "Star Wars" it would have had the
accomplishment of depicting a fairly elaborate
space station and laser battle. Instead, it just borrows the idea.

An evil eugenicist takes over the space program to
create a new species in space and kill the inhabitants
of earth. We cannot much object to the plot then.

As in any James Bond movie, one has to enjoy quick
sequences of action and sex. It's hard to take any
of it seriously, but the treatment of wimmin as
scientifically competent but ready sex objects plays into male
fantasy.

In "Moonraker," some of the scenes with the most tension
occur simply because James Bond forgot to use his gun and somehow
viewers are supposed to forget he has one on his wrist.
It's typical of the sloppy and fast way the action unfolds.

The whole premise of James Bond movies is the excitement
of the life of a British secret agent. The James Bond
series of 20 movies deserves the ash-heap of history, but
this one cost $20 or $25 million in 1979 currency and made over $200
million.
