This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

"Two Weeks Notice"
Starring Hugh Grant & Sandra Bullock
Warner Bros.
2002 (2003 video)
100 minutes
PG-13

A liberal lawyer who obviously needs MIM's class in political
economy puts her body in front of wrecking balls hired by
a real estate developer who she eventually meets and works for.
He is GQ material--good-looking, well-dressed and generally
clueless about his field of work.

She agreed with her previous boyfriends politically, but they
left her the audience is left thinking because she was too
smart and not "feminine" enough. Now she falls for the
multi-millionaire.

This movie is the perfect romantic adjustment movie, helping
wimmin to eroticize power. In Amerikkka
today, wimmin are generally more "liberal" than their men,
especially in this type of situation where the womyn is an
educated professional. Men are also generally better off than
wimmin, until they die and leave behind widows. For romance to
work, a culture like "Two Weeks Notice" has to arise to
smooth out the average differences.

He does not have political views just a knowledge
of public relations and pursuit of profit, but hers are only somewhat
developed. She plays the petit-bourgeois who likes her community
to retain its quaint image while developers seek to tear it down
and build bigger and more profitable developments. The petty-bourgeoisie
can sometimes be uncomfortable in the face of the huge power of the
imperialists--not too uncomfortable though. She agrees to marry in
and all problems are solved.
