"'Our only rule was very simple: no idea or image 
that might lend itself to a rational explanation 
of any kind would be accepted,'" said Luis Bunuel 
in explaining this film. The video jacket says he 
received many of the ideas from surrealist 
Salvador Dali.

The film is a shocking series of images--mostly of 
hideous decay of various kinds.

MIM chalks this one up to it being 1928: directors 
had to experiment with film. Although we recognize 
why it's considered "classic," we don't see much 
value to this film beyond serving as an historical 
marker.
