[MC5 comments: In January, 1980, the Dengist League of Revolutionary Struggle (LRS) published its Forward Magazine explaining its merger with Amiri Baraka's Revolutionary Communist League (RCL). Ideologically comatose from the start, LRS was already two years late in analyzing events in China in the quote below. No where does it mention that Hua restored Deng Xiaoping to one of four vice-chair positions and let him make the closing speech at the August, 1977 party congress. Although outright capitalist farming was already in practice for a year, LRS had nothing to say about it. Not surprisingly, the LRS watered and watered down its line, changing publications and mastheads while dissolving itself only to have its remnants merge with other equally comatose organizations--all this despite direct MIM efforts to educate the comrades on China. It was a case of rejecting ideological struggle and scientific study in order to take up comfortable bourgeois positions.] "One important struggle that took place was to analyze the 'gang of four' in China and uphold and defend the Communist Party of China (CPC) under the leadership of Chairman Hua Guofeng. The RCL leadership correctly opposed the 'gang of four' and supported the CPC and Chairman Hua, but there was some struggle to unite the organizations around this due to the remaining influences of the 'Wing.' [The Wing was a momentarily promising organization of the 1970s that MIM addresses elsewhere-- MC5] "This was an important struggle for the organization because it aided in defeating the influence of the 'Wing.' RCL recognized that the 'gang of four' held a similar ultra- left line as the 'Wing.' It recognized similarities in the 'gang of four's' and the 'Wing's' metaphysics and idealism, sectarianism, and dogmatism."
