This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

Support MIM's
Free Books for Prisoners program

On April 22, RAIL held a book drive on the diag of the University of Michigan campus. That day we accumulated over 100 books to benefit MIM's Free Books for Prisoners program. Since the one-day book drive, activists have continued to contribute to the program and have donated more than 100 additional books. As one donator said "the Public Library gets enough donations from liberals."

RAIL agrees. Too many people believe the state propaganda which says prisoners are bad people who need to be punished for their crimes. RAIL sees that prisoners are overwhlemingly poor and Black (in Michigan, a Black man is eight times more likely to be in prison than a white man) and that prisoners deserve to read good books and study political theory as much as anyone else. The purpose of the Free Books for Prisoners program is to do what we can to help prisoners turn their time under lock & key into a time to develop their politics and to build with us toward the beginnings of a more just and productive society.

To find out more about conditions in Michigan prisons, check out RAIL's FACTSHEET on Michigan prisoner labor. Send us your revolutionary or progressive books (requests for books on Black history, Marxism, China and political agitation within the united snakes are frequent). You can mail books to:

RAIL or MIM
P.O. Box 3576
Ann Arbor, MI 48106-3576

or send us e-mail to find out more about our work with prisoners.
