January 13, 7:00 p.m. Trotter House, 1443 Washtenaw Avenue (corner of S. University)
The film shows the conditions of the Puerto Rican nation and the development of the Young Lords Party/Puerto Rican Revolutionary Workers Organization. The Young Lords organized with the people to promote the interests of the Puerto Rican nation and to build support for genuine national liberation of the Puerto Rican nation.

The film was effectively banned in Amerika though shown in Europe where it received awards. It details the struggles fought by the Black nation, Latino nations and First Nations to gain national liberation and self-determination. It covers the historical development of radical and revolutionary organizations, the conditions of the people, the civil rights movement, the development of COINTELPRO and the current imprisonment of revolutionary and nationalist leaders.

Lecture on prisons. Big Black, a.k.a. Frank Smith
January 23, 7:00 p.m.
NEW LOCATION: 100 Hutchins Hall (in the law quad, use S. State Street entrance or Monroe Street entrance closest to State)
Big Black was an inmate at Attica Correctional Facility in New York during the early 1970s. He was a leader of prisoners and worked to raise the political consciousness of prisoners both before and during the Attica rebellion. Black will talk about the history of the Attica rebellion and current prisoners' struggles. He will also talk about the current methods of oppression targeted at the Black nation specifically, but oppressed nations in general. Black is currently a paralegal and his experience in organizing both in prison and as a community activist will surely contribute to activism in our area.
