The united $tates is quietly losing the war in Iraq. Though the federales manufactured a "terrorist" incident to try to distract you(1) the fact is: more and more persyns are killing themselves, and taking out some imperialists and their lackeys in the process. In April alone 67 suicide bombers attacked the imperialists and their lackeys in Iraq.(2) MIM salutes their sacrifice: "The level of suicide attacks has raised fears that amerikan and Iraqi forces are losing the battle to prevent foreign fighters, prepared to die for the cause of defeating the u.s. occupation, entering the country. "(2) MIM salutes these martyrs because it is their brave actions which will continue to make the occupation of Iraq not worth the price in oil the imperialists are stealing from Iraq. It takes no bravery at all to fly a jet, press a button, and kill a few dozen or even a hundred villagers--men women and children included. To strap a belt of demolitions, walk up to the fascist bastards fucking you over and end it all takes courage.
[mim3@mim.org interjects: The continuous stream of suicide-bombers in Palestine and Iraq is proof that the people in those places have vast political and cultural potential. Unlike the oppressor nation so-called workers in the united $tates, Germany etc., the Arab peoples show a fighting spirit.]
The insurgents' attacks in April were the heaviest in any month of fighting so far.(2) The trend of the past year is clear. Not only is resistance in Iraq not vanishing it is intensifying. It could not be otherwise. The u.$. occupiers have continually killed and tortured thousands of innocent people in Iraq. 84 per cent of Iraqi schools have been destroyed.(3)
Unsurprisingly, the anglo-imperialists aren't talking about the suffering they inflict on the people of Iraq. However, the French press(4) is willing to tell us: sanitary conditions in Iraq have deteriorated severely since the invasion and occupation. Here's the balance:
*18.4 % is the total unemployment --33,4 %, among youth, including those with an education (probably because the u.$. imperialists are trying to destroy the Iraqi intellectuals).
*Electricity is available, if at all, only sporadically for 85% of Iraqi households.
Only 54% of Iraqi households have drinkable running water.
23% of Iraqi children are malnourished--slowly starving.
Diarhea, caused by bad water and bad food, is the principal cause of child death in Iraq. This is a preventable death.
Hospitals and medical centers have been destroyed. Shortages of medicine and broken medical equipment characterize the hospitals still standing. (5)
The imperialists' response to their own idiocy is just like in amerika: Build more prisons!(6) "The detainee population surpassed 11,350 last week, a nearly 20 percent jump since Iraq's Jan. 30 elections."(6) In other words, just as the number of attacks are increasing so are the numbers of people being imprisoned! A pundit would quip, obviously they are imprisoning the wrong people. Moreover, more prisons will only make the imperialists' position worse. No one likes to be wrongly imprisoned, and you can bet plenty in Iraq are wrongly imprisoned. No one likes to be tortured. If you think that the torture in Iraq ended guess again: "Many of the stories now coming out of Guantanamo--the sexual humiliation of Muslim prisoners, their shackling to seats in which they defecate and urinate, the use of pornography to make Muslim prisoners feel impure, the female interrogators who wear little clothing (or, in one case, pretended to smear menstrual blood on a prisoner's face)--are increasingly proved true. Iraqis whom I have questioned at great length over many hours, speak with candour of terrifying beatings from military and civilian interrogators, not just in Abu Ghraib but in u.s. bases elsewhere in Iraq."(7) To cover up, Rumsfeld banned cellphone cameras in Iraq just after the Abu Ghraib torture scandal. All the Iraqi prisons will do is make more people even more angry at the occupier.
Marx said something about the proletariat: it is that class which has nothing to lose and everything to gain by waging revolutionary warfare. This fact is why we place strategic confidence in the proletariat's ability to win the conflict. The Iraqi people, just for one example, have nothing to lose and everything to gain by getting rid of the fat parasites sucking their blood. Thus, the Iraqi heroes will continue to kill the invader.
Compare the Iraqis now to the amerikans. If Amerikans were desperate to the point of rebelling they would be doing something other than signing up for the fat paycheck, VA benefits, (housing, medical care) and pension that are the reward for being the oppressor. But the amerikans and other imperialists are the minority of the world. They are outnumbered. We will win--but the question is at what cost. MIM wants that cost to be as low as possible and has a proven strategy for achieving proletarian victory.
Because the imperialists have no coherent strategy they lash out blindly killing anyone who happens to be in the way. Consequently they are hated throughout the Third World especially in the Middle East.
An example of the u.$. intelligence failure on the ground: Recently, the u.$. Marines-- the most elite troops the imperialists can field--went on what they thought would be a simple raiding expedition in northern Iraq. "Operation Matador was launched after intelligence suggested followers of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had fled there from the restive towns of Falluja and Ramadi, which have also been the targets of a u.s.-led onslaught."(8) Of course, Zarqawi has not been found. The intelligence was wrong.
[mim3@mim.org adds: There are many other examples where emitting false intelligence for capture by the imperialists and their lackeys levels the playing field. This is an inevitable aspect of warfare that tends to neutralize technological advantages of the imperialists. It is inevitable that a people motivated enough to commit suicide bombings is also motivated enough to learn how to hand the enemy wrong information. Related to this, 40% of over 300 casualties of contractors are translators according to USA Today posted May 21. The insurgents understand the role of intelligence and there is no likelihood that technology and wealth can overcome that.]
To the surprise of the imperialists, the defenders targeted in Operation Matador were well prepared(9) and well trained.(10) Though Zarqawi was not captured a u.s. puppet governor was taken hostage by the resistance.(10) Similarly Fadel Mohammad Moubarak, a colonel in the ministry of the interior of Iraq was attacked and killed near his house by insurgents.(11) The insurgents also killed an Iraqi general, Iyad Imad Mehdi who lived in Baghdad. (11)
The insurgents don't have jets, but can strike at will. The occupiers have jets--but they can't capture Bin Laden, al-Zarqawi or anyone else for that matter. So it's possible to have strategic confidence despite the enemy's technological advantage. Moreover, the imperialists are forced to torture the few "small fish" (in fact: PEOPLE) that they do capture. But they don't get any information. Like the sadists they are, they simply get pornographic pleasure out of beating and humiliating poor brown skinned persyns. But by so doing they earn more well deserved hatred. The imperialist torture chambers are only making things worse for the imperialists. They will lose: hopefully quickly.
MIM knows full well, based on the experience of the war in Vietnam, that the most certain way that the war in Iraq will end will be when the labor aristocracy in middle amerika sees enough of their kids, parents and cousins come home in boxes. "The American side cannot be eradicated, but the insurgents seem to have decided that they will not be defeated, as long as they are willing to die for their cause."(12) This was exactly the situation in Vietnam. The labor aristocracy will eventually get sick and tired of sending their troublesome offspring to die in Iraq so mommy and daddy can have cheap oil for the SUV. They seem to be learning quicker in Iraq than they learned in Vietnam. "The Army has missed its recruiting goals for each of the past three months... For the first half of the fiscal year, the Army had signed up 35,926 active-duty soldiers to begin serving this year, about 15 percent short of the year- to-date goal of 42,585."(12.1) As a result army recruiters are lying and bullying even more than usual.
We would ask the members of one squad in the 1st Platoon of L Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment, just how badly it is going for the imperialists. But 60% of that platoon, including every member of that squad, is now dead or in the hospital.(13) Marine reservists were members of that platoon.(13) Middle amerika, we don't shed any tears for you because you robbed the natives, enslaved the Blacks, and went on to put the world under your boot. You have it coming. You deserve it.
The action involving the 1st platoon, L company further demonstrates how the people's intelligence races ahead of the imperialists': "Commanders had hoped the operation would swiftly capture or kill large numbers of foreign fighters. But the foreigners, and everyone else here, had plenty of warning that the Marines were coming... By the time the squad from Lima Company crossed north of the Euphrates, whole villages consisted of little more than abandoned houses... Men of fighting age had made themselves scarce. The AK-47 assault rifles ubiquitous in Iraqi households had disappeared." (13)
Our reader may sense the futility of the war, the senselessness of the death, the inevitability of defeat of the imperialist parasites. So we ask why you aren't already working with MIM to end this.
We point these bloody and painful facts out to you so that fewer boxes are necessary. We don't want the people in Iraq to have to kill themselves to get rid of your cousins, brothers and parents. But the imperialists are leaving us with no choice. You can walk away from this fight and convince all your friends and family to do so as well. The Iraqi people cannot. They have no choice. You do.
The amerikans dying in Iraq are dying for Big Oil. The Iraqis are dying for the family, their friends, their homeland. It's obvious who will win, but it's a question of how long it will take.
Meanwhile, at home, Bechtel's profits have soared "to new heights not seen since the 1960s."(14) Halliburton, another large military contractor, just got a fat 72 million bonus. (15) You can bet the shareholders of both companies think the war in Iraq is going just great! Ask the NY Times: "The nation's military contractors are awash in cash, which is making their shareholders happy and pushing their stocks to new highs." (15.1) At the same time as uncle $ugar is paying out bonuses to Halliburton, $96,600,000 in cash which the u.s. took from the Iraqi's oil revenues to redistribute for reconstruction has simply "disappeared"! (15.2) Since the u.s. was the logical custodian of that money we can say that u.s. thievery is getting bolder and stupider just like u.s. military tactics.
As the megacorps like Bechtel and Halliburton profit, the u.s. labor aristocracy get's killed to make them richer. Just one example: the Marines who are going to die in Iraq are getting outfitted with sub-standard body armor.(16) This is the sort of perversion that the wonderful capitalist profit motive leads to. The former Marine, presumably retired, who approved the acquisition of sub-standard body armor now works as a civilian consultant in the arms industry.(16) Best of all: the nonconforming vests cannot be tracked down and recalled or distinguished from the ones that met the standards tested for.(16) That is the extent of the self-destruction among our enemies. They wear bullet-proof vests that don't work.
The imperialists lack intelligence--in every sense of the word. For this reason they will lose the war in Iraq. The only question is, how many people will the imperialists kill before you figure it out and stop them. Work with MIM to organize resistance against the war. The life you save may be your own.
