This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

Maoist Internationalist Movement

1991 MIM Congress

Voting in the bourgeois world

[mim3@mim.org comments: In December, 1991, the party recorded a number of resolutions laying down the skeleton of a scientific analysis. Most of the 1991 resolutions were in reference to articles that MIM was going to publish in MIM Notes or MIM Theory. In 1991, we had some concrete experiences of some embarassment. There were some tie votes, in which the status quo prevailed. More humorously, the party gave majorities to three contradictory resolutions listed below. Perhaps the interpretation is that it was OK to vote and register in the bourgeois world, but not in elections at the municipal level or beyond. Certainly, MIM has struggled to define what is a winnable election and what is not.]

1. Comrades may register to vote only if necessary for reasons of material support.

2. Registered comrades will not vote in bourgeois elections or run for municipal, state, national electoral office.

3. It's OK to register and/or vote if it's useful in the bourgeois world.

A subsequent vote said "comrades will register to vote when necessary for the bourgeois world, or when the party decides this is a useful strategy; otherwise they will not register/vote."
