Maoist Internationalist Movement (MIM) statement in celebration of the 24th anniversary of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDF)'s establishment

24 April 1997

The Maoist Internationalist Movement (MIM), a revolutionary communist party based in North America, enthusiastically salutes the 24th anniversary of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. The NDF was established in 1973 as the principal alliance of progressive and revolutionary organizations fighting currently for national freedom and genuine democracy. It is led by the Communist Party of the Philippines and its Marxist-Leninist-Maoist line. The NDF believes that true national liberation requires a two-stage revolution -- the national democratic revolution currently being waged and the subsequent socialist revolution that will immediately be undertaken upon the nationwide victory of the current stage. As part of the national democratic revolution, the NDF develops links with other positive forces, including progressive elements from the Filipino bourgeoisie, in order to build the broadest possible unity against U.S. imperialism and local reactionaries. Because the U.S. imperialists are armed to the teeth and will not give up their privileges and stolen property without a fight, the NDF is waging an armed struggle for national liberation with the New People's Army. The NDF has persistently asserted that genuine and lasting peace can be achieved only by resolving the root problems in Philippine society through the carrying out of the national democratic revolution. Led by the Communist Party of the Philippines, the NPA is fighting a protracted people's war, which fundamentally depends on the political unity and organization of the masses.

From the early 1980s to the start of the 1990s, the NDF became infected on several levels with the erroneous trends of insurrectionism, military adventurism and reformism pushed by a handful of revisionist schemers who had crept into positions of authority in the Communist Party and the NDF. These trends combined into a fullblown counterrevolutionary line. The historic 10th Plenum of the Central Committee of the CPP held in 1992 thoroughly criticized the counterrevolutionary line and its propagators, and launched a Rectification Movement that has completely defeated this wrong line and further consolidated the Communist Party of the Philippines, the New People's Army, the NDF and the entire national democratic movement. After the launching of the Rectification Movement, revolutionary education, mass work and solid organizing have become the primary stresses for NDF work. The revolutionary armed struggle and the mass movement have gained new strength. The NDF held its First National Conference in 1994. The Conference adopted a new Constitution and Program and reaffirmed the expulsion of the counterrevolutionary renegades from the NDF, thus laying the basis for more and bigger victories for the revolutionary movement in the months and years to come.

Long live the National Democratic Front of the Philippines!
Victory to the Filipino people's war!
Long live Marxism-Leninism-Maoism!
