We're at a point now where professionally-speaking, the situation with the feds and Ward Churchill does not get much clearer. MIM will be adding documents to the archive. If I were Ward Churchill's attorney David Lane, I would not be happy, because the material is pretty much there for observation, but the feds have not broken the story to public opinion. Conversely if David Lane is happy, MIM will be happy. MIM is not going to designate an attorney until things are "too late" from the political point of view.
MIM has spent the last eight months introducing feds to each other. Perhaps "joint work" is not all that it is cracked up to be; it's not for MIM to make the final determination on that. However, at this point, there are no more excuses. MIM has made extra sure that all the spies know each other.
Some provocations and death threats have been admitted openly. Some have been admitted in spy-speak. The one death threat in 2005 that still requires action is not a matter of "interpretation." It came with identifying and additional remarks to make clear who the target was. Later the CIA did participate in the cover-up, out of embarassment and with reference to parallel situations. We also have proof that others did read and act on allegorical language of federal spies.
Everywhere we look we see the CIA's hand on the smoking guns. As MIM said before, we do not care about the chef's hats as long as the federal government takes the blame. It seems that the CIA has been offered out of the blame by one or two spies, but again that is not for us to determine.
The bosses of these agents have been taking blame.(1) The FBI has been counting violations of privacy. It's a very sterile way to go. What MIM is asking could have been asceptic too, except that it involved a flurry of threats to Ward Churchill's career. So unfortunately, this story has to become a little more concrete in order to put the toys back on the shelf.
The Congress is also on the trail for this sort of problem. Senator Leahy is interested in NSA wiretapping and House rep Nadler is also.(2)
From what I can see, the CIA has witnessed the most parts of the picture out of the government agencies. Instead of going to president Bush or inventing a layer of bureaucracy above the agencies, one CIA agent should break the logjam, especially given the recent forthcoming discussion by another agent. I would recommend a CIA agent should go to the media and explain what went wrong and the principles involved while maintaining privacy.
Colorado, it is our interpretation that the spies recognize that MIM's interests are not the only ones at stake here and possibly they reach out for some means of resolution to David Lane. If Wesson were to resign and retract her report, this would all be moot, so MIM in some sense has to defer to Colorado. We simply do not know where everything stands. We also believe the spies understand acutely that MIM has no interest in this if David Lane is made happy.
