The price of oil has crossed $98 a barrel.(1) The dollar is in free-fall against the European currency called the Euro, partly because the united $tates uses so much more oil than other countries. Wall Street called Vice President Cheney to answer whether he knew the situation and he indicated he did and would not predict if there is another recession coming.(2)
At this time with the oil price skyrocketing, one would think our imperialists would be on their best behavior. Instead they vie with each other. They should be making information on the crisis and causes available to the public, but it would not sell any Amerikan vehicles or please any recreational desires.
Some would say the problem is our conservation policy. MIM argues that a class and national system is behind our policies.
Racism and national chauvinism are the reasons Amerikans drive gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs. When the Japanese decisively defeated Amerikans in sub-compact, compact and medium sedans, Amerikans decided pick-up trucks and jeeps must be required suburban property.
That in turn became a reason for rural and suburban folks to send their kids to the Iraq War.
The reason we say imperialism is decadent is that it cannot solve problems anymore. Even when McCain tries to get the public off oil dependence, he just does so by whipping up hatred against Venezuela, Iran and Russia.(3) The problems fester and when the solutions come, they also suck. That is imperialism.
