A pathologist is now saying that Daniel died from a combination of two anti-depressant drugs and methadone. In other words, it actually looks like Daniel was trying to "clean up" his act when he died. Perhaps the pathologist is trying to cover up for the family image, but the report confirms that drugs had something to do with the death.
A multi-millionaire and famous from television appearances in his own right, Daniel is yet again another proof of the decadence of imperialism. It seems that things could hardly be better for an individual under imperialism, and yet, that is exactly what depressed a man with his whole life ahead of him.
MIM has talked before about the over-medication of the u.$. public for psychological dogma purposes. There could hardly be better proof than Daniel. He was taking two drugs of great fame but marginal effectiveness in handling depression. The combination with methadone killed him.(1)
MIM is interested in the effect of the overall political atmosphere on social relations. A poll in September shows that only 20% of the public is confident about U.S. policy in Iraq being successful.(2) 46% say that Iraq will be an "extremely important" factor in their vote in November 2006 elections. Iraq is a background anxiety in U.S. society, one of many that contributed to Daniel's death.
CNN put the overall mood this way as Amerika marked the 5th anniversary of 9/11.
"Still, most Americans appear to be fatalistic, with more than half -- 57 percent -- saying they think that terrorists will 'always find a way to launch attacks no matter what the U.S. government does.'"(4)MIM does not agree. We believe politics matters far more than most Amerikans believe, in part because of their own willingness to trust politics to others.
One poll shows that 64% of Amerikans correctly perceive that the war in Iraq is increasing the chances of terrorism.(5)
Another poll shows that 81% of Amerikans believe the united $tates will always be in danger of terrorist attack.(6)
Meanwhile, 32% of British polled believe the West should negotiate with Bin Laden and 56% do not believe the West is winning the "war on terror."(7)
Nor do Amerikans believe the trend is going toward less war. 53% polled in August said they believe Amerikans will be at war with Iran in five years.(8)
Overall, the U.$. public is more in tune with what MIM has been saying from the beginning in 1983. 20% now agree with us that World War III is already under way. Another 42% says that's where we are headed.(9)
Even the U.$. and British public are already aware that the West has no real plan for the solution of the world's war problems. The U.$. public also overwhelmingly believes there is a long-term decline in U.$. ability to influence the world. The public is wising up that going out to catch a few terrorists is not going to be the end of the question. That is why we should try to convince the u.$. public to stay apolitical and leave the world stage with a whimper.
MIM finds the international facts of life a factor in U.$. youth depression, including our celebrity youth--a statement about the decadence of imperialism. We're not saying that Daniel himself was politically-minded, probably not, but when the society's extra resources and attention go into war, there are fewer social outlets and chances for a sense of great achievement in life.
