This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

Prison Awareness Week;
UMass Campus Center, Nov 2-5

The 5th annual Prison Awareness Week will include speakers, films and discussions on a broad range of topics concerning prisons and social control in the U.$. The week will be both educational and oriented towards organizing.

Mon Nov 2, 7pm. The Last Graduation. Congress eliminates Pell Grants for prisoners, effectively eliminating college educations for prisoners despite evidence that college reduces recidivism.

Tues Nov 3, noon. Rally against the Criminal Injustice System. UMass Student Union Steps.

Tues Nov 3, 7pm. The "War on Drugs" is a war on Blacks, Latinos and youth. Guest speakers: Roger White, graduate of Howard School of Law, and a young man who was sentenced to 18 months in a "drug treatment facility" whose "drug treatment" consisted solely of unpaid manual labor.

Wed Nov 4, 7pm. Through the Wire. Documentary about the first control unit prison for women in Lexington, KY. Discussion about control units and the struggle to end them in Massachusetts to follow.

Thurs Nov 5, 7pm. Forum on the injustice system: Former prisoners, families of current prisoners and their allies speak. Invited guests to include: Richard Picariello, who spent 2 decades in Massachusetts and Maine control units for his political activism, and Frank "Big Black" Smith, a leader of the Attica rebellion and survivor of the brutal assault by the NY State police that followed.
