Victory in Washington

[In July MIM reported on widespread censorship of MIM Theory and MIM Notes. Washington state attempted a statewide ban on MIM Theory 14 and MIM Notes 328, 331, 332 violating a previous court settlement we had with WDOC. This is the first report we've heard of the decision being reversed. Other Washington prisoners should contact us and let us know if they have received these materials or not. If you still haven't received them inquire with the mailroom about this decision being reversed. We will keep comrades updated on this battle and those going on in other states.

Victories like this require the coordinated efforts of distributors on the outside that are being censored and prisoners who are being denied their materials. The example of this comrade should be followed by anyone who receives a censorship notice.]

Dear MIM Comrades,

This letter is to let you know that Mail Rejection No. #14985 has been appealed to the second level to the DOC-OCO Headquarters. At this level the rejection was overturned. I delayed contacting your office awaiting the decision of my second level appeal, the first level was upheld. Which is not typical in my case because I have challenged this issue before on the first level and won.

The rejection made no sense, but I suspected it was just another effort to repress the political information coming into the institutions. There have been many attempts to suppress political, educational and prison literature from being viewed, studied and circulated amongst the prison masses.

I have been trying to educate, inform and circulate political literature for many years of my incarceration. And MIM Distributors has been instrumental in that effort. I am now running into more and more prison comrades who have either heard or read MIM Notes, more and more are telling me about the study group on political theory. It brings me great joy knowing I initiated through action, commitment and propagation of MIM literature. So there is a more serious concern and effort on the part of WDOC to monitor and suppress this type of thought and information. So just to let you know I have received MIM Notes 328, 331, 332 and MIM Theory #14 this week.

In solidarity,

- a WA prisoner, September 2006
