May 31 2007
Now I$rael is arresting the loser in the last Palestinian election, not just the winner. On May 29, I$rael took its first Fatah official to be arrested since January 2006. I$rael had already arrested the elected officials of parliament in Palestine.(1)
At the same time, the Moonie-cult-owned newspaper in Washington said May 31 that over 50% of Palestinians want to continue the armed struggle with I$rael; even though, they apparently have a low opinion of both their leading parties, Hamas and Fatah.(2)
We often hear that I$rael is the only democracy in the Mideast. Yet I$rael is holding many Palestinians and arrresting democratically-elected members of Palestine's parliament.
In actual fact there are no guaranteed minority rights inside I$raeli borders or in Palestine outside those borders. That is what makes elections meaningless.
In the last two weeks of May, I$rael killed 50 Palestinians. The Palestinians have learned to fire rockets into I$rael, but there is a civil war between the u.$-backed Fatah and Hamas. It goes to show the importance of unity of the Palestinian people on a class and national basis. Also, those buying into the "clash of civilizations" line would be supporting Fatah and u.$. imperialism at this time. When will the so-called Maoist movement of the world finally rebuff those supposedly in their own ranks who carry out Bush's and Elliott Abrams's wishes. Before the Maoists firmly eject the vacillators and outright members of the imperialist camp, we cannot expect Maoism to gain any ground among Arab peoples.
